Welcome to Superstition Mantids!

Hello! And welcome to the Superstition Mantids weekly blog! We are so excited you are here, and whether you are a beginner or an experienced mantid keeper we hope you can walk away with some insight into the world that is Superstition Mantids and what we are all about.

For our first ever weekly blog we would like to talk about who Superstition Mantids are and what we stand for in our business. One of the most important things to us is honesty and transparency, we believe that every life is precious, even our little bug friends and we put that belief into caring for every one of our mantids. We only sell nymphs that have molted into L2 and those same nymphs have been bred and raised by us (no middleman here!).

Superstition Mantids started out as just a conversation after purchasing our first mantis (which actually turned out to be my first bred female). She turned into a beautiful green Phyllocrania Paradoxa or "Ghost" mantis, and from there an obsession that started at a young age was reignited and then grew. Both of us were those kids who loved playing with bugs of all kinds and this brought all those memories back with a vengeance. We decided we loved these little guys so much that we wanted everyone to love them too! So we got our first breeder pack and away we went!

After our first ooth (the eggs mantids lay) hatched our dreams met reality and every single nymph (baby mantis) that hatches from our queens is just as special and precious as the rest of them. There have been hard times, as there usually are when dealing with any living creature, but those hardships also turned into learning experiences and we adapted and overcame. The excitement of seeing a new ooth hatch never dulls, and waiting to see how many “ants” we have is always a bright spot to my day.

One thing we are passionate about is the conservation and ethical breeding of our mantids. We want our mantids to live their very best lives whether that’s with us or in a new loving home, and to achieve that starts at the breeding stage. We place our standards as high as possible when we breed our mantids because we want them to not only survive but thrive!

I know this was rather long for a blog and if you’ve stuck around this long then you’re a rockstar! In the future our blogs will be to update you all on our mantids and won’t be so long winded (lol). So, if you love mantids, or just bugs in general stick around and see what we have in store!
